How to Use File Upload in Your Forms

The File Upload field allows respondents to submit files directly through your form. This is useful for collecting documents, images, PDFs, or other attachments without relying on email. Follow these steps to add a file upload option to your form in Formester. This lets your respondents submit resumes, photos, reports, or any other documents directly through your form.

Step 1: Create or Choose a Form

Log into your Formester account and click New Form. You can start from scratch or choose from ready-to-use templates.

For this example, let’s create a new Application Form from scratch.

Step 2: Add Form Fields

Inside the form builder, start adding the fields you need:

  • Name
  • Email
  • Phone Number
  • File Upload

Click on each field to edit its properties. You can mark fields as required if you want to make sure every submission includes them.

Step 3: Customize File Upload Settings

Click on the File Upload field to see more options. Here, you can:

  • Allow multiple file uploads.
  • Set a maximum file size limit.
  • Choose which file types can be uploaded (such as PDF, DOCX, JPG).
  • Enable camera capture for direct image uploads.

Step 4: Publish and Test

Once you’ve customized your form, click Publish. Open the live form and fill in the details, including uploading a test file. Then hit Submit.

Step 5: View Uploaded Files

To check responses, go back to your form builder and open the Results tab. You’ll see all submissions along with the uploaded files, ready to view or download.

What You Can Do Next

Once your form is live, you can:

  • Collect resumes for job applications.
  • Accept photo submissions for contests.
  • Gather project files or reports from clients.
  • Store uploaded files alongside submission data for easier tracking.
