Rating scales

Rating scale fields help you collect feedback in a structured and visual way. In Formester, you can choose from Scale Rating, Star Rating, and Ranking fields.


Scale Rating

Adding the Scale Rating Field

  • Open your form in the editor from your Formester dashboard.
  • Click Add Elements.
  • Under Survey Fields, select Scale.
  • The field will appear with a default numeric scale (for example, 1–5).


Customization Options

  • Scale Range: Adjust the start and end points (for example, 1–5, 1–7, or 0–10).
  • Labels: Add text labels to define the meaning of low and high values (for example, “Not Satisfied” on one end and “Very Satisfied” on the other).
  • Required Toggle: Make the question mandatory if every respondent must answer.


Use Cases

  • Customer Satisfaction: “On a scale of 1–10, how happy are you with our service?”
  • Employee Feedback: “Rate your work-life balance.”
  • Product Research: “How useful do you find this feature?”


Star Rating

Adding the Star Rating Field

  • Open your form in the editor.
  • Click Add Elements.
  • Under Survey Fields, select Star Rating.
  • The field will appear with a default 5-star scale.


Customization Options

  • Star Count: Set the number of stars (for example, 3, 5, or 10).
  • Icon Style: Keep the default star or replace with hearts, thumbs, or other icons if supported.
  • Default Value: Pre-select a rating if needed.
  • Required Toggle: Ensure respondents cannot skip the question.

Use Cases

  • Service Reviews: “Rate your dining experience.”
  • Feature Feedback: “How do you rate this tool’s ease of use?”
  • Course or Event Ratings: “Give us a star rating for today’s workshop.”


Ranking

Adding the Ranking Field

  • Open your form in the editor.
  • Click Add Elements.
  • Under Survey Fields, select Ranking.
  • The field will display a draggable list of items that respondents can reorder.


Customization Options

  • List Items: Enter the items you want respondents to rank (for example, “Speed, Quality, Price, Support”).
  • Order Type: Allow ranking of all items or a subset (for example, “Rank your top 3 preferences”).
  • Default Order: Choose whether to show items in a random order or a fixed order.
  • Required Toggle: Decide if respondents must rank all items.


Use Cases

  • Product Prioritization: “Rank the features you’d like us to build next.”
  • Market Research: “Order these brands from most trusted to least trusted.”
  • Team Polls: “Rank your top three choices for the next team outing.”


Publishing Your Form

  • Once you’ve configured your rating fields, click Publish.
  • Preview the form to check the scale labels, star icons, and ranking drag-and-drop behavior.
  • Submit a test response to make sure results are captured correctly.
