Connect to Google Tag Manager (GTM)
How to Install Google Tag Manager in Formester
Google Tag Manager (GTM) is a powerful tool that allows you to track form submissions, run retargeting ads, and connect your forms to analytics platforms like Google Analytics or Facebook Pixel. By installing GTM on your Formester forms, you can gather valuable insights about user behavior and optimize your campaigns effectively.
Steps to Install GTM in Formester
Step 1: Set Up Google Tag Manager
Log in to your Google Tag Manager account. If you don’t have a container yet, create one for your Formester subdomain. Once the container is ready, navigate to the Admin section and select Install Google Tag Manager.
You will see two scripts: one for the head and one for the body. Copy the head script, as this is what you will add to your Formester form to connect it to your GTM container.
Step 2: Add GTM Script to Your Form
Log in to your Formester dashboard and open the form you want to connect to GTM.
- Go to the Advanced tab.
- Scroll down and select Scripts.
- Click Add Script.
- Enter a script name and paste the GTM tag into the script box.
- Use the Target Page option to choose when the script should fire:
- Page number: Fires as soon as the page loads.
- Thank you page: Fires only after a successful form submission.
Click Create to save the script. You can repeat this process to add multiple GTM scripts, including custom triggers or tracking codes for specific pages.
Step 3: Publish the Form
Once your GTM scripts are set up, click Publish. Your form is now connected to GTM, and the tag will automatically trigger according to the page or event you selected.
Step 4: Test Your GTM Integration
To ensure the connection works:
- Copy your form URL.
- Open Google Tag Manager and go to the Preview mode.
- Paste the form URL into the test window and interact with the form.
- Use the Google Tag Assistant to verify that your tags fire correctly on page load or upon submission.
Once verified, provide a version name in GTM and click Publish to finalize your setup.
What You Can Do After Connecting GTM
- Track Form Submissions: Send submission data to Google Analytics 4 (GA4), Facebook Pixel, or other tracking tools.
- Retarget Users: Create custom audiences for people who interacted with your form but didn’t submit.
- Visualize User Behavior: Integrate with tools like Hotjar to see heatmaps and user interactions.
- Advanced Analytics: Use custom triggers and events in GTM to track specific actions within the form.
Using GTM with Formester helps you gain deeper insights into your forms’ performance, optimize conversion rates, and run smarter marketing campaigns.
